65 and Older/Lottery Program

Seniors 65 years of age and older may qualify for the PA Shared Ride / Lottery Program and be able to ride the van at no charge.

Seniors must be 65 years old and get certified with the program's Intake Coordinator. To get certified, you must fill out an application that includes your name, address, phone number, date of birth and emergency contact (and their phone number). You also need to submit a photocopy of an ID with your date of birth on it (such as a driver’s license). The application MUST be signed.

The Shared Ride Program is open to the general public, but they must pay full fare. Passengers must make their appointments at least two business days prior to the day of the trip.

You will not get a physical card or “pass” to ride the Senior Shared Ride program, as you would with a Fixed Route Senior Pass. (When you turn 65, you can apply for a Senior Pass that allows you to ride free on any COLTS fixed route buses just by showing the pass.)

Once you are certified, you can call up to two days in advance and make your trip reservation. Hours of service for Senior Shared Ride are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Based on your location the service hours could vary.

Seniors who live in hi-rises or who attend Active Adult Centers are encouraged to make group trips for shopping and outings whenever possible. Please note that COLTS is not obligated to provide a courtesy call to the client when the van arrives within the window given when the appointment is scheduled.

You can apply for the Senior Shared Ride program at COLTS headquarters, 800 North South Road in Scranton. COLTS' offices are open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. You may also call the intake coordinator at (570) 963-6795 to ask for an application to be mailed to you. You can also download it from link below.
